Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ is a serious matter and worthy of a clear understanding. To be assured of eternal life based on the clear teaching of scripture is vitally important. In the gospel of John, John wrote in chapter 20 that Jesus did many things that were never written down, but that these were recorded so that we may know that we have eternal life. To know is to be assured beyond a shadow of a doubt, but how can we be that sure. The answer to that question is simple and clear as we look into scripture. In the book of Acts chapter 16 the Apostle Paul had been arrested in Philippi and by the help of God had been released. The jailor, seeing the hand of God and listening to the singing of Paul and Barnabas, asked a tremendous question, What must I do to be saved? The answer that Paul gave was direct and simple, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." I will add nothing to Paul's answer because nothing needs to be added. It is faith in Jesus Christ that saves us from our sin and puts us in a position of perfect holiness with God. Ephesians 2:8 clearly states that by grace we are saved by faith and that even the faith is a gift from God. We can bring nothing to God in ourselves because all of our goodness is like a filthy rag to God. When Jesus died for our sins on the cross and cried, "It is finished", full and free salvation was offered to all mankind. We simply must turn to the Lord in faith, trusting Christ to save us. After making that most important decision to believe on Christ we are to begin our walk with Him trusting in Him to live out His life in us. No law or rules are needed to follow as the Christ that now lives within will guide the life. There is much to learn and your journey has only begun but all is a matter of receiving what you receive from Christ by being united to Him.
